Min Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea, and began her musical studies at age six. She is a current doctoral candidate in piano performance and music & medicine under Joseph Banowetz and Dr. Kris Chesky at the University of North Texas.
She studied piano at Kay Won Arts High School with Kichoung Lee. Min Kyung completed a Bachelor’s degree in piano performance with Jung Kyu Kim at Myongji University in South Korea and then earned a Master’s degree in piano performance and instrument collaborative with Joseph Banowetz and Dr. Steven Harlos at the University of North Texas in 2011.
As a soloist pianist, she has recorded a Complete Music for Piano Duo and Duet, Volume two of Dmitry Shostakovich for Toccata Classics in 2016. She attended and performed at International Keyboard Institute & Festival in New York in 2017. She has also appeared in performances in the 250th Anniversary of Mozart in Korea, numerous solo recitals and chamber recitals. As a researcher, she is a current student researcher at the Texas Center for Performing Arts Health. She presented a poster session at the 2014 Performing Arts Medicine Association in Aspen, Colorado. She also has presentation at the 2016 Federation of North Texas Area Universities.
Min Kim has been the recipient of numerous awards and prizes in Korea and the United States including those held by Music Education News Competition, the Korea Philharmonic Orchestra Competition, the Ye Won University Competition and Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition. She was recognized as an outstanding student in piano performance while at Myongji University and received the outstanding student scholarship in 2005. Throughout her master and doctoral studies, she has been the recipient of the James T. Rhea Scholarship, College of Music/USC Scholarship, Academic Achievement Scholarships and the Raupe Grant.
As a piano pedagogue, she is experienced in teaching of all ages and levels over 10 years. With numerous experience and studies in the background of music education, she has the special ability for all types of learners. Many of her students participates and receives awards in piano festivals, auditions, and competitions.
